Nvidia could power Shield v2.0 gaming console with Tegra X1 SoC
NVIDIA's latest Tegra X1 chipset is expected to bring desktop level graphics to mobile devices. And what better device to show off this chip's potential than a Shield handheld console. Well, a new Wi-Fi certification listing has implied that the company's upcoming Shield handheld console will be powered by the said chipset, making it a true powerhouse in terms of performance.

NVIDIA hasn't launched a follow up to the first gen Shield handheld console, which was announced back in 2013. So the timing will be perfect, given that last year's Shield Tablet has been around for more than 6 months now.

The device spotted here has the model number P2523. The Wi-Fi certification page lists the Shield handheld console next to the Shield Console (P2571), which packs a Tegra X1 chipset. So it's only fair to assume that the handheld console will feature the same chip.

Although it might be a bit of an overkill for a handheld console to get such a powerful processor + GPU combo, the fact that it can be hooked onto a bigger screen will ease things a bit for gamers.

The device has been spotted on Bluetooth SIG certification page as well, suggesting that this is a legitimate device. Unlike the first gen Shield handheld console and the Shield Tablet, which was launched subsequently, we're hoping this new device will see a launch outside the North American markets as well.
